Crafted in Brazil is a family affair — it’s me, my husband, and my brother.
I’m Jen and this business is my brainchild. I’m from Seattle, Washington, and came to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil for the first time in 2013 on a capoeira trip (capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that originated in Salvador). On that trip I took a percussion class with the man that is now my husband, Bira. It took two years and a few return trips to Salvador for us to start dating, and we were married at the beginning of 2017.
The handsome guy in the middle is Bira, my husband. He is a professional musician and percussion instructor, born and raised in Salvador, Bahia, where we are currently. He helps me by constantly staying on the lookout for new artisans, chatting up the artisans as only a baiano can, helping with photography, and just all-around being awesome.
Chris, on the left, is my brother. He lives in Madison, Wisconsin, and helps with operations and shipping. Since we’re in Salvador, he is our U.S. base — I couldn’t do this without him.
